An internet search of the phrase "being reduced to a number" will produce hundreds or thousands of hits, most of which are an objection to some form of measurement applied in any way to a human being. Modeling the world mathematically is as uniquely a human trait as language or art, but you would rarely find anyone complaining of being "reduced to a poem" or "reduced to a painting."
