Rusty nail fabric

A couple of years ago, I shared with you some of my adventures in making rusted fabrics . Once you start down this path, it's hard to stop! We recently had part of our roof redone, and while the estimate was being prepared, our roofer found an old bundle of rusty nails sitting up there from the last guy who ventured up, about 12 years ago! He brought them down with him and offered to throw them out for us. To my amazement, both Mike and I yelled "No!" at the same moment! It does my heart good to know that my Love is so in tune with my inner junk collector :-) In honor of our new roof, I have made some new fabrics. If you haven't tried this technique before, please please please have a go at it. It's so easy, it's ridiculous! Follow the instructions from my previous post on Making Rusted Fabrics   Here I tried a little experiment, placing the rusted objects on top of the fabric instead of under. It failed miserably. No matter how much vin

Baby Magic has a new campaign...and a new background!

One of the sample ads Over the summer, I was contacted by a very nice woman at an ad agency who was looking to license the use of one of my images.  Funny enough, it turned out to be an image that was just a background.  I guess it had just the right colors and mix to make it attractive for the new Baby Magic campaign!  You can see it in the background at their site, and in print ads in American Baby and Parenting magazines.  Technorati Tags: mixed media , collage , assemblage , digital art , photography , altered books , art journals

Autumn walk

We're sad to find that this fall in New England is just not going to be up to par when it comes to color.  We had flooding rains all spring, no rain all summer, and the trees are just too stressed to be at their best.  That also explains the poor apple crop this year :-( Mike and I went for a really nice walk last week, but we found that almost as soon as the leaves turned, they also fell, so there just weren't the drifts of color that we're used to.  Especially absent are the bright reds.  Oh well, hopefully next year will be better.    Technorati Tags: mixed media , collage , assemblage , digital art , photography , altered books , art journals

A woven fabric background

I've had a boring piece of fabric kicking around in my pile for awhile now.  Months ago, I made a piece of snow painted fabric   specifically for a particular quilt I was working on.  After cutting out the one little tiny piece I needed, the rest of the fabric has been calling my name ever since, begging to be used.  But it was kind of boring.  Sorry, but it's true...not everything we make is exciting, at least not right away! What I finally decided to do with it was to turn it into a grid of sorts.  Ripped into strips and woven with a plain unpainted piece of fabric, I thought it might end up being more interesting.  The top thread could be any color, depending upon how obvious you want your grid to be.  I wanted mine to be clear, but not distracting.  Why?  I don't know yet, since I still don't know what I'm going to use this for.  I've already shared the basic steps to making a paper weaving , and that's what you'll follow to make a piece like t
