Sisters...in progress

I've never had a sister, just a little brother (my favorite!). Today I'm hoping to finish this piece with a couple of additional images which will give substance to the quote: "A sister shares childhood memories and grown-up dreams"

Voice jail

The Great Escape from Voice Jail

After spending the morning in a haze of frustration (trying to reach Verizon to get my phone fixed), I was more than a little amused by finding this article ~ in the news box on the Yahoo home page! How's that for timing?

So right there in black and white on my computer screen was the 800 number that I would have needed to reach a real live human being directly at Verizon and save myself at least a half hour of aggrevation with a machine who repeatedly told me, "I'm so sorry you're experiencing this problem." NOT! If you were really sorry, you'd make it much easier for me to get something done about it!!!

Here are Paul English's cheat sheets. The first contains the rules in general, the second has instructions for companies by name. Is this guy great or what??

My new screen saver

Nate prefers leaping to sledding!

Tuesday, January 10, 2006

Nate returns to Guatemala today...

...and I am sad! We've been lucky enough to have him home for a two-week furlough, which included his 20th birthday, but I've gotten used to having him around. Of course!

Since they don't have snow, Nate has been taking the kids to dirt-sled, That's him on the right with the stick in his hand ~ I think he's checking to make sure that the hillside won't collapse under them:

Eternal summer

Eternal Summer

My season series is finished! Yea! Next time, I'm going to remember to do all the prep work at one time so that I don't run out of steam. The first three came fast, but this one took awhile. That also probably had something to do with the holidays...

Anyway, the line is from Shakespeare's Sonnet 18, Shall I compare thee to a summer's day:

"But thy eternal summer shall not fade"

Please don't write to me and tell me that he wrote the poem for a man rather than a woman. I have read the whole sonnet cycle. I used to teach it. I don't care!

Talk to the hand

Talk to the Hand:
The utter Bloody Rudeness of the World Today,
or Six Good Reasons to Stay Home and Bolt the Door

I love Lynne Truss! I love her humor, I love her writing style, and I really hate a lot of the things she is whining about in this book! Here's a clip:

"This book is, obviously, a big systematic moan about modern life. And the expression 'Talk to the hand' specifically alludes to a response of staggering rudeness best known from The Jerry Springer Show....I see it as a forest of belligerent and dismissive palms held up to the human face instead. Thank you for choosing to hold for an assistant. There's no one here to help you at this time. Nobody asked you to held the Effing door open. An error of type 506 has occurred. Please disconnect, check your preferences, then go off and die....If you would like to speak to an assistant, please have your account details ready and call back in 200 years."

Oh yeah, I can relate. And it does all make me want to stay home and bolt the door!
